CSI Case File #145

Playing along with this week's case file.  I love the lime green in the color scheme and used it as my page base. The strip on the right was perfect for the color scheme.  To incorporate red, I stamped a bunch of label stamps with red ink, for the transparent elements in the evidence column, I stamped "true", "playful", "real" on transparency.  I also used a stencil to add a little color in the background.

At CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration they have teamed up with Scrap365 for some special case files, and they will publish a few selected pages from the participants in the next issue of the magazine. I loved the color scheme so I decided to play along since the deadline is Oct 31 and I had plenty of time to make a page.

Case No. 144 No Limits

I tried to use as many of the "evidence" items as I could, my favorite was the Maya Road lightbulbs I just got from Flying Unicorn.  What I really love about these challenges are the journalling prompts in the "testimony" column, they make the journalling so easy.

Park Page and Most Wanted

Had fun using up leftover scraps of some old Basic Grey paper with this page.  Used a bunch of newer Heidi Swapp stamps and some cool iron on numbers that I found in my stash. I'm determined to use up inters that have been hanging around in my scrap room for far too long and it's been fun challenging myself to supplies on hand.

Also I was surprised and excited to be featured on CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration Most Wanted list.  It was my first submission to the gallery and I recieved lots of lovely comments from the members and the Design Team.  It's a fun and friendly group and very inspiring.

Since I've been cleaning out and purging my scrap room I am more determined than ever to use my stash and use up some of those scrap of paper that I can never seem to throw away but have been pilling up.  This entire page was made from scraps a d a couple of sheets of CTMH cardstock.

Week 3 od Art & Design is all about pattern.  With this latest layout I finally feel like I'm getting the feel for the concepts in this class and interpreting them in a way that is more my style.  While I adore Wilna's pages, the stark white backgrounds that she starts most pages with is not really my thing.  I usually start a page with colors that relate directly to my photo, and almost alway have a patterned paper or solid color card stock background.  In this layout I started with golds and purples for my paint colored circles and the wood printed paper.  I love the combination of the rustic wood and the shiny gold and metallic purple paint. the xoxo was painted with india ink on white card stock then fussy cut by hand.

What is an Ornithopter?

Today I'm a guest designer with a featured layout over at Leaky Shed Studio.  

There are so many great chipboard shapes to choose from, it was so fun looking through all of them but when I saw the Ornithopter I just knew I had to make a layout to document our recent trip to France.

I've been playing around with art journals, using all kinds of mixed media techniques, but until recently I never really used them in my scrapbooks. I decided to take the Art & Design class at Big Picture Classes taught by Wilna Furstenberg. She does beautiful layouts with watercolor and gelatos and modeling paste....

Back to the not so basics

When I first started scrapbooking I did only 12x12 layouts, bit in recent years I focused mainly on mini albums. I was in a huge slump for a long time when it came to scraping 12x12 layouts, that is until recently when I rediscovered my love of scraping layouts.   I found a few very inspiring ladies on YouTube who do a lot of mixed media techniques in the 12x12 format. Bringing mixed media to what used to be a mostly cut and paste process makes it more exciting and fun. It's been so much fun that I have completed a bunch of layouts that I'm excited to share on my blog. I haven't photographed all of them yet so I will start a couple that I did last week. 

 

 

I made some stamped elements with that I stacked on top of book paper, vellum and doilies.  They are grouped together on top of a strip of card stock that is textured with die cut letters and shapes, gessoed and painted. I also used twinkle H2Os in gold on the background paper. These are really old products that I have had in my stash since the dawn of scrapbooking, but I love how this page turned out, it's the kind of design that I never would have even though of doing way back when I started scrapbooking (17 years ago, yikes!). The photos are from way back when too, that adorable baby is turning 20 years old at the end of this month.
